Coast Guard ship Huravee makes first official visit to Sri Lanka, joins fleet review and offers disaster relief support

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coast Guard ship Huravee has made its first official visit to Sri Lanka, joining the country’s 75th Navy anniversary celebrations and offering readiness to provide humanitarian and disaster relief support amid ongoing floods.
The Huravee was deployed to Colombo to participate in the International Fleet Review (IFR 2025), where delegations from 20 countries took part, including naval vessels from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Russia, and Iran.
While the ship’s primary mission was to attend the anniversary events, the MNDF confirmed that Huravee has informed the Sri Lankan government of its readiness to assist with humanitarian and disaster relief operations in response to the severe flooding affecting parts of the country.
This marks the first time an MNDF vessel has been invited to participate in a military fleet review abroad. Huravee previously joined India’s fleet review during a refit trip, but not as an official invitee. In 2016, another MNDF Coast Guard ship participated in a fleet review.
Maldives Coastguard Ship (MCGS) Huravee has set sail for the Maldives after undergoing repair works in India.
From 27 - 30 November, MNDF personnel aboard Huravee took part in ceremonial fleet reviews, city parades, community outreach programs, professional naval exchanges, and public engagement activities, including open‑ship visits.
The fleet review in Colombo was observed by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Nireka Amarasuriya, alongside senior defense officials. Chief of Defense Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmi represented the Maldives, while Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Masood Imad also attended. Sri Lanka’s Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, visited Huravee and met with its commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Nafiu, and crew.
