President orders national flag to fly at half-mast for one day following the passing of the former Amir of Qatar

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a directive (No. 14/2026) ordering the national flag to be flown at half-mast for one day, from 12:00 p.m. on Monday, 13 July 2026, until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, in mourning following the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Amir of the State of Qatar.
The decision was made in recognition of the long-standing ties of friendship between the Maldives and Qatar. It also serves as a gesture of appreciation for the close relationship maintained by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani during his reign as the Amir of Qatar, as well as his generous contributions and steadfast support toward the development and progress of the Maldives.
The late former Amir was laid to rest with full state honours on Sunday, 12 July 2026.
President Dr Muizzu departed for the State of Qatar this morning to attend the official mourning ceremonies being held following his passing.
