BML Donates 500 Plants to H.A. Hoarafushi Greenery Project

Bank of Maldives has met with the island council of H.A. Hoarafushi and donated 500 plant’s to the Hoarafushi Airport’s green initiative. The greenery project in Hoarafushi was launched in April 2019 with the aim of promoting the greenery surroundings of the airport.
According to the Hoarafushi council, 10,000 trees are planned to be planted as a part of the project. Although the project was initially launched by the government, it would primarily be managed by the Hoarafushi council with involvement from the island’s community.
Previously, the government voted out in November of last year for an airport to be developed on Maafinolhu Island, an island that lies on the same lagoon as Hoarafushi. however, the new administration decided to develop the airport in Hoarafushi to maintain the greenery of the island without damaging the environment for economic developments.
Hoarafushi land reclamation project is estimated to be complete by the end of this month, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
