Foreign Minister Dr.Asim has urged the international community to look at the achievements of the country when evaluating Maldives. He said this while addressing at the United Nation’s General Assembly speaking on behalf of Maldives.
Minister said that Maldives should not be evaluated or benchmarked based on criteria set by others, but based on the accomplishments of the country and based on the developmental goals of the people of Maldives.
Minister also urged to look at the capabilities of the country, instead of only pointing out the vulnerabilities.
Dr.Asim also expressed concern on the amount of aid received by small countries even though everyone speaks about the vulnerability of small nations.
Dr.Asim said that even though a country is small, it can only be developed by implementing large projects. He said that if not the chances of becoming economically stable is very less.
Dr.Asim also noted that small countries can progress with economic development only by having long term plans for it’s development.
