The re-prosecution of the Thinadhoo Arson Case by PG Office which was earlier withdrawn from Criminal Court on Saturday، is unfair to the law، claimed Former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Speaking to media on Saturday morning، after returning from attending the Party Leaders’ conference of International Democrat Union، Former President Nasheed said the case of Thinadhoo Arson being sent to court for re-prosecution، after the case was withdrawn from the court on Saturday، is disrespectful to the court and unjust to the law.
“I believe that Chief Judge of Criminal Court thinks deeply regarding the matters. It is not wise for Politicians to take quick actions in response to his decisions. He has withdrawn the case. PG Office to sent it back to the court for re-prosecution is an act of disrespect to the court.” President Nasheed said.
The trial is adjudicated by Chief Judge of the Criminal Court، Abdulla Mohamed.
Fifty five accused for the arson case was ordered detainment on the allegation of tampering of witnesses. Seventeen more were ordered for detainment as they did not show up for the court proceeding. However، as state lawyer failed to show up for the court proceeding on Saturday، the case was withdrawn، and all the detainees were released.
Total of 89 were accused of the arson on Government buildings in Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo on 8th February 2012، following the resignation of former President Mohamed Nasheed on 7th February 2012.
