Home Minister Umar Naseer has said immediate measures will be enacted on minors involved in gangs and other criminal activities.
Speaking to Miadhu, Minister Umar said yesterday’s stabbings were between two gangs and that 19 people have been arrested in connection to the case.
He said that it was the responsibility of the state to ensure that minors were protected and they were made into productive members of the society, adding that the government will carry out that mandate.
“Minors involved in crime are placed under state care to reform them, to remove them from the crime environment. To make them into productive citizens,”
Minister Umar said rehabilitation will be provided for those children and that aid would be provided without seeking the consent of the parents.
“The situation had reached this point because of their neglect. Protecting them is the responsibility of the state,”
Minister Umar said that no one should accept of believe there were no measures that can be taken against minors in organized crime.
“Taking measures against juveniles is easy. No one should think that there would be no measures,”
Minister Umar said following the tagging procedure, gang leaders have not been seen in the environment.
