SOGM’s Endometriosis Workshop Advances Women’s Health and Fertility Awareness

A two-day workshop on endometriosis has concluded, with the closing ceremony graced by the First Lady, Sajidha Mohamed.
Efforts are being made to enhance women's health, raise public awareness about health barriers to childbearing and strengthen the treatment system. The two-day workshop held at Dharumavantha Hospital, organised by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Maldives (SOGM), aimed to encourage health workers to improve their education and training and facilitate treatment using modern resources and research.
The workshop featured experts from neighbouring India, who shared insights on endometriosis. Discussions covered raising awareness on the condition, its causes, the reasons women experience pain, pain management, diagnostic scanning, infertility linked to endometriosis, and treatment options available abroad.
Gynecologists from hospitals across the Maldives participated online.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the First Lady highlighted that society has begun to acknowledge the mental and physical suffering endured by women with endometriosis over the years. She noted that the government and the health sector have increased their efforts to address these challenges. She also noted that from 2023 onwards, the national health insurance scheme, Aasandha, has been covering fertility treatments. This reflects the government’s growing emphasis on supporting reproductive health, she said.
