Velana International Airport (VIA) is set to undergo further changes to its traffic flow and parking arrangements starting Thursday evening. Maldives Airport Company Ltd (MACL), the airport operator, made the announcement on Wednesday.
According to MACL, the airport roads will be utilized differently from 00:00 on Thursday. All vehicles will access the airport via the outermost route. Vehicles entering the airport are directed to use the right side of the road in front of the taxi parking area.
The announcement specifies that all vehicles will be permitted to enter the airport via the outer road. MACL further stated that vehicles transporting passengers to and from the airport will operate on the left side of the road in front of the taxi waiting area.
Vehicles carrying passengers to the airport's two terminals will depart the airport using the road located in front of the new terminal. MACL also mentioned that vehicles both entering and leaving the airport will utilize the right side of the road in front of the parking area.

The airport's new terminal opened on July 26, and traffic flow adjustments have been a recurring theme since its inauguration.
A common grievance among airport users has been the considerable time spent in taxi queues. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the closure of the large parking zone in front of the new terminal, which was initially shut for security reasons. However, two months after that decision, parking was re-permitted in the area on the 11th of this month.
