President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that Th. Vandhoo harbour development and shore protection project, formalised today, will commence and be completed at the earliest. He made the announcement while addressing residents of Vandhoo as part of his ongoing tour of the atoll.
The President described the project, to be carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, as essential for the island’s development.
In line with the Government’s policy of defining and allocating jurisdictions to strengthen local councils, Kakolhas was officially placed under Vandhoo Council’s administration. The decision followed a proposal from the Council and was formalised through a signed agreement.
The President further stated that additional amendments would be introduced as necessary to facilitate the island’s economic growth. He highlighted that measures such as maximising the use of land available for lease would be incorporated to support these efforts.
President Dr Muizzu also announced that work on the island’s mosque is scheduled for completion by next Ramadan, while the futsal ground will be completed later this year. He added that a road development project for Vandhoo will be included in next year’s budget.
Reassuring residents of continued progress, the President said that planned initiatives in the health and education sectors would begin in the coming days, with the community seeing them through to completion. During his visit, President Dr Muizzu inaugurated BML ATM services on the island and attended the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Vandhoo Council Secretariat building and the fitness centre.
