Cargo trips from Tuticorin, India, to Kulhudhuffushi City have begun, and the first cargo vessel docked at Kulhudhuffushi City today. According to MPL (Maldives Ports Limited), this marks the launch of a direct monthly cargo service scheduled to operate between Kulhudhuffushi and Tuticorin. “The general cargo vessel named V.B. Progress, which departed from Tuticorin, India, has arrived at Kulhudhuffushi harbor with 127 tons of cargo. This cargo includes construction materials for STO (State Trading Organization) and perishable goods for a private party,” MPL stated. “We note that this is the launch of the direct monthly cargo service scheduled to operate between Tuticorin and Kulhudhuffushi,” MPL further added. However, MPL stated that these trips could be increased based on the volume of cargo brought in. It is noteworthy that the previous government had launched a service named “Cochin Cargo Ferry” to transport cargo between Kulhudhuffushi and Cochin, India. However, only a few trips were made under this ferry service.
