Tender Opened for Developing Resorts in 13 Locations in Bodu Thiladhunmathi

A tender was opened today for the development and operation of tourism resorts in 13 locations within Bodu Thiladhunmathi. According to the announcement made by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment opening this tender opportunity, the offer is for developing and operating resorts in five locations in Haa Dhaalu (HDh) Atoll, five locations in Haa Alifu (HA) Atoll, and three locations in Shaviyani (Sh) Atoll. These locations include developing two resorts in the lagoon of HA. Kelaa, three resorts on the reef of HA. Maadhuni, two resorts on the reef of HDh. Makunudhoo, three resorts on the reef of HDh. Maafaru, and three resorts on the reef of Sh. Gonaa. It has been decided to allocate 200 hectares for each resort to be developed on the reef of HA. Maadhuni. For the development of the first resort in Kelaa Lagoon, 156.2 hectares will be allocated, and for the second resort, 169.3 hectares will be allocated. It has been decided to allocate 200 hectares for the development of each resort on the reefs of HDh. Makunudhoo, HDh. Maafaru, and Sh. Gonaa. The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has opened the opportunity for interested parties to submit bids by participating in the virtual information sessions scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, and Tuesday, January 6, 2026. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated at the ceremony marking the second anniversary of the current government that projects to develop tourism in areas of the Maldives that have not yet been adequately developed will commence soon. The government has decided to lease these lagoons and reefs for tourism with several concessions. This includes granting a duty waiver of up to 15% on the capital investment for materials brought in for resort development. Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism has decided to add furniture, kitchen appliances, electronics, and other equipment brought in for resort development to the category eligible for duty exemption. These lagoons are being leased for 50 years. Work must commence within 35 months of the lease being granted.
