An expatriate was seriously injured when he was run down by a lorry in Kaafu Atoll, Thilafushi.
The incident was reported to Police at 14:15 on Thursday. A Sri Lankan citizen sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Police said the incident occurred when the Sri Lankan was working near an excavator when he was hit by a lorry and ran over.
He is being treated for serious injuries. However, police have not released details of the injuries.
The driver of the lorry, 28-year-old Indian citizen Vignesh Annadurai, is now in police custody. Police also towed the lorry he was driving.
The case is being investigated, police said.
Such incidents on construction sites have occurred in the past, albeit rarely in Maldives.
