Islamic Minister seeks public opinion on issuing sermon in a mosque in English

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has appealed for submittance of public opinion on issuing Friday sermons in english language in a mosque in capital Male' City.
In a post of Facebook, the Minister asked for public opinion on issuing the sermon in English as there are a large number of foreign workers in the Greater Male' Area, among which are many muslims.
"I am making this suggestion as the reading of sermons in english may have a significant positive effect on the character, discipline and religiosity of foreign workers," the Minister said.
He clarified that he had not placed any such changes into effect as of yet, and is only intending to explore public opinions on the idea.
As per the Census of 2022, 97,164 foreigners reside in the Maldives. 32,740 of them live in Male'.
