STO Partners with Indian Pharma Company to Tackle Medicine Shortages

The State Trading Organisation (STO), the main government company responsible for importing medicines to the Maldives, has signed an agreement with Hindustan Latex Life Care Limited, a company operating under the India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In recent months, there have been difficulties in obtaining some essential medicines in the Maldives, and several efforts have been undertaken to address the issue. As part of these efforts, STO has now entered into an agreement with the Indian firm, aiming to bring a permanent solution to the issues faced in importing medicines.
According to STO, the agreement will facilitate access to hard-to-find medications. All pharmaceuticals imported under the agreement will comply with World Health Organisation (WHO) standards and medicine import regulations.
Hindustan Latex Limited is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical suppliers. The company has previously provided critical medicines to STO during the COVID-19 pandemic.
