Maldives Officially Welcomes Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Historic State Visit

The Maldivian government formally welcomed Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during a ceremonial reception at Republic Square today. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu greeted President Dissanayake with a 21-gun salute, followed by the performance of both nations’ national anthems and an inspection of the Guard of Honour.
Invited by President Muizzu, President Dissanayake’s visit marks his first state visit to the Maldives since assuming office in September 2024. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, established on July 26, 1965.
During the visit, official talks will focus on strengthening bilateral ties. Following these discussions, both presidents are expected to issue a joint statement outlining key agreements and future cooperation.
