Malé Discussions Highlight Expanding Indo-Maldives Cooperation

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held formal bilateral discussions on Friday afternoon at the President's Office in Malé, deepening a strategic partnership amid the Indian leader's two-day state visit.
Prime Minister Modi arrived earlier this morning at the invitation of President Muizzu. The visit, spanning two days, underscores a renewed effort to advance diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries. Ahead of the formal bilateral discussions, President Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi engaged in private one-to-one deliberations at the President’s Office.
President Muizzu, in remarks issued by his office, conveyed appreciation for India's sustained role in supporting the Maldives' national development. The dialogue centred on reinforcing cooperation across several key sectors, including economic development, defence, trade and investment, and climate change.
As the meeting concluded, both leaders voiced optimism about expanding collaboration in areas such as capacity building, healthcare, tourism, and sports, according to a statement issued by the President's Office.
