President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday conveyed condolences to Guatemala following the tragic bus accident that killed dozens of people.
In a message to César Bernardo Arévalo de León, President of Guatemala, President Dr Muizzu expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a tragic incident involving a bus that veered off a highway bridge outside Guatemala City.
“As Guatemala observes three days of national mourning following the incident, President Dr Muizzu also extended his sympathies to the Government and the people of Guatemala,” the President’s Office said.
At least 51 people were killed Monday in Guatemala City when a bus crashed through a guard rail on a bridge and plunged into a ravine, rescue workers have said.
The local fire department said the bodies of 51 people were retrieved from the site of one of the worst accidents in the Central American country in years.
According to local media, the bus was travelling to Guatemala City from the town of San Agustin Acasaguastlan in El Progreso department, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) to the northeast.
