Maldives Explores Fisheries Cooperation with China’s Sichuan Province

The Ministry of Fisheries held a high-level meeting today with a visiting delegation from Sichuan Province, China, to explore potential collaboration in fisheries and aquaculture under the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement (CMFTA).
The delegation, representing the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Sichuan, discussed ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as:
- Modern fishing technology transfer
- Capacity building
- Information sharing in aquaculture and fisheries
Sichuan, a leading province in western China with a GDP of over 7 trillion yuan, is known for its strong agriculture and aquaculture sectors. The province plays a key role in China’s rural development and food security strategies.
The Ministry stated that the meeting could open doors for expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in fisheries and marine sectors, and contribute to the economic ties between the two countries.
