Telecom giant Ooredoo Maldives kicked off its annual night fishing competition, “Ooredoo Mas Race”, on Tuesday night.
The contest, which is held during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Shah Ismail, in a special ceremony held at Hotel Jen in capital Male.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ooredoo’s Director of Sales, Ahmed Niyaz, declared that unlike previous Mas Races which were held in the greater Male area, some rounds of this year’s competition will be held in various regions across the archipelago.
Niyaz stated that Ooredoo Mas Race would encourage unity and harmony within the community, and increase Maldivians’ love for fishing.
This year’s race consists of 10 events. With the Mas Race slated to commence at the end of this month, the final round is to be held in June.
Niyaz added that the Mas Race is open for companies, resorts and other offices for participation. Ooredoo will announce applications at a later date.
This year marks Ooredoo Maldives’ eighth Mas Race. The company had had to call off the race in the last two years due to bad weather.
