Public Service Media (PSM) declared on Monday that all candidates running for office in the upcoming presidential elections will be afforded equal opportunities to present their respective campaigns.
As the official state media, PSM is required to broadcast content that is unbiased and fair, however because it is state funded, opposition has made claims suggesting that the 'propaganda machine of the state'.
PSM is currently facing harsh criticism because only events and promotions from Progressive Party of Maldives have been broadcasted thus far.
Opposition have now made claims that they have not been granted a chance to air their content.
In a statement given to Mihaaru News, the Managing Director of PSM Ibrahim Khaleel said that all presidential candidates would be given the opportunity to without being partial, all presidential candidates will be given the chance to showcase campaign related content, adding that that the details of the content would be announced at a later time via gazette.
When asked why the opposition has not yet been granted an opportunity to broadcast their content, Khaleel attributed the matter to a difference in perception.
While Elections Commission has finalized September 23 as the election date, application for candidacy will be open on July 15.
