Some trees and houses of G.Dh. Madaveli have been damaged after sea swelled and flooded the island.
Speaking to “Vaguthu”، information officer of G.Dh. Madaveli Council said that since some of the houses in the northern side of the island are quite close to the seashore، those houses faced flooding.
Information officer said that maximum amount of swells was recorded last night and the swells were up to 100 ft in height. In addition to this، the information officer said that about 10 houses near the seashore on the northern side of the island were damaged to an extent with sea swells and also the houses near the seashore on the southern side of the island were also flooded to some extent.
The officer also said that the trees near the sea of the island were also damaged extensively and that the sea swells flooded the island from the harbour area of Madaveli as well.
“Not really sea swells. Water flooded the island due to increase in sea level”، said the information officer.
