Arif criticizes Nasheed for speech at Oslo Freedom Forum

MP for the Kelaa constituency, Ali Arif has criticized the former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed for speaking at the Oslo Freedom Forum at the Norwegian capital. Speaking at a government coalition function at the MDA hall last night, MP Arif said that a former President of the Maldives spoke at the Oslo Freedom Forum on strengthening democracy in the Maldives and worldwide. MP Arif said that a former President of Maldives also attended a meeting held to promote the LGBT community. “I want to say something about one thing debated at the Freedom Forum.” MP Arif said. “LGBT. A former president of this 100 percent muslim country went to promote the things indicated by those four words. That story not being covered in this media in Maldives is, as a Maldivian, a sad thing.” The Oslo Freedom Forum is an annual forum held by the Human Rights Foundation targeted to bring together former Presidents, Nobel Prize winners and celebrities to discuss and share information on dictatorships. And so the topics of discussions include religious freedom, LGBT rights, human rights, rights of children, media and freedom of expression and wars. President Nasheed spoke at the Forum on how his presidency toppled and the aftermath. Aside Nasheed, the Norwegian Prime Minister, head of the Syrian rescue group White Helmets, a female MP of Iraq and the daughter of Venezualian political criminal, Antonio Ledezma joined the Oslo Freedom Forum this year along with business owners and media groups.
