Fisheries Minister Dr.Muhammad Shainee have said that the intention of former President Nasheed and President Maumoon is to create doubt among investors and economic development of the country.
Dr.Shainee tweeted making this statement during a time President Nasheed and Maumoon are criticizing the development project Saudi Arabia is planning to conduct in Faafu Atoll.
It is believed that the details of the project will be officially announced during the Saudi King's visit to the Maldives in March.
There are legislations regarding investments in Maldives. Nothing can be done against these legislations. The legislation was passed with votes from MP's who support Maumoon even.
Even back then the President of PPM was Maumoon. At that time Maumoon never said anything about the bill. Now people are questioning Maumoon's motives after he started issuing various statements regarding foreign investments all of a sudden.
As for Nasheed he gave away Hulhule' to GMR after agreeing that civilians cannot travel to Hulhule' from Male'. This was an unfair decision that undermined the sovereignty of Maldives.
Developing Faafu atoll will not undermine sovereignty of Maldives like it did in GMR's case. Those who are unsure about this can check GMR agreement and the relevant laws under which islands are leased to foreign investors.
