President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has, by Presidential Decree, amended the administrative boundary of Maafaru to exclude Farumuli from its administration. Farumuli and Kan’dinmahuraa were previously included within Maafaru’s administrative area under Presidential Decree No. 7/2024, issued on April 15, 2024.
Today’s Presidential Decree No. 17/2025, which removes Farumuli from the administration of Maafaru, was issued under the authority granted to the President by the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 07/2010). Following this change, Farumuli has been designated for tourism development in accordance with the Maldives Tourism Act (Act No. 2/99).
Consequent to this amendment, the annex of Decree No. 2/2025 (Establishing Inhabited Islands of the Maldives) has been updated and published in the Government Gazette.
