Media Council to file case regarding misuse of funds by former members

Media Council has decided to file a case to court regarding the misuse of MVR 900,000, taken illegally by its former members as living allowance.
Media Council said that this decision was made unanimously by the eight members who attended yesterday’s council meeting, based on the advice of the Attorney General.
The misuse of MVR 900,000 was mentioned in the council’s audit report for 2010, and the Auditor General had recommended reclaiming this money.
On 30 May 2011, Media Council notified the former members to repay the money.
The issue was noted in the council’s audit report for 2012 as well, after all except two members failed to comply as notified by the council.
Media Council said that it has also been notified by the Audit Office to do the necessary to obtain this money.
Out of the 15 former members of the council, the money has been repaid only by Ahmed Faisal and Ahmed Abdulla.
