The Criminal Court cancelled the hearing of Jumhoory Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim scheduled for late Tuesday.
According to his lawyer Hisaan Hussain, Qasim had requested the court to cancel Tuesday night’s hearing, which was to be held behind closed doors, due to his poor health. The judge presiding over the case obliged after considering his ailing conditions.
Qasim, the lawmaker of Maamigili constituency, was also hospitalised recently before he was discharged on Monday.
The court is yet to announce a date for the next hearing.
Judge Adam Arif had declared at the hearing held Tuesday morning that Qasim’s trial will be picked up where it was left off when it was previously thrown out of the court due to the prosecution’s failure to turn up.
The state is charging Qasim with attempted bribery of lawmakers. While MP Qasim is suffering from worsening health, he is unable to travel abroad for treatment due to the travel ban imposed on him as his trial is still ongoing.
