Sports has become increasingly popular among Maldivian youth. In response, the government has identified five locations for the development of sports fishing ports. The ports will feature facilities such as fish stalls, administrative office for organising of competitions, restaurants and cafes, fishing gear shops, and barbecue facilities.
The government is also working to further expand sport fishing and grouper fishing activities as part of efforts to expand fisheries and economic activities, and increase the income generated from such activities.
