Met Office Warns of Poor Weather as Winds Reach 45 mph in Maldives

The Maldives National Meteorological Service has warned that adverse weather conditions persist across the country, with wind gusts in cloud bands reaching up to 45 mph.
According to the Met Office, rain and thunderstorms are expected in various regions over the next 24 hours. Winds are blowing from the west and northwest at 13 to 23 mph, with stronger gusts observed in cloud bands. Sea conditions remain rough, with wave heights ranging from four to seven feet.
Officials also cautioned that certain islands may experience tidal surges during high tide periods. The intensified low-pressure system over the western Maldives is contributing to these challenging weather conditions, which are forecast to continue for the next two days.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has advised the public to avoid non-essential sea travel. Those who must travel have been urged to monitor weather updates closely, avoid nighttime journeys, and postpone trips if adverse conditions persist. The Coast Guard also stressed the importance of complying with yellow and orange alerts issued by the Met Office.
