Maldives engages in OACPS discussions on trade, development

The Maldives has participated at the 11th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), held in Malabo, Guinea, from 27 to 29 March 2026.
The Maldives delegation was led by Ambassador of the Maldives to Belgium, Geela Ali, and included Hassan Nawaaf, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Maldives in Belgium.
During the summit, member states discussed strengthening cooperation in areas of economic, trade and sustainable development. They also emphasised the importance of strengthening the institutional framework of the OACPS and reaffirmed their commitment to actively contribute to organisation’s effectiveness.
Ambassador Geela also attended a special session of the OACPS Council of Ministers held during the Summit
The summit holds particular significance as it follows the 50th anniversary of the organisation, which was celebrated last year.
Established in 1975 under the Georgetown Agreement, the OACPS serves as a platform for cooperation among its member states and with international partners, including the European Union. The Maldives became a full member of the OACPS on 9 December 2022 and has since been working closely with fellow member states to address shared global challenges and advance common priorities.
