ACC to complete probes this year in cases from islands
MALE, September 13 (HNS) – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is working on to conclude by the end of the year investigations into corruption allegations filed from the islands. Deputy Commissioner Muawwiz Rasheed, who is in Fuvahmulah to investigate cases filed from the island and Addu City, said four teams of the commission are currently in Fuvahmulah, Addu, Laam atoll and Thaa atoll. “We aim to complete all the investigations into the cases filed from the islands. We investigated cases filed from Haa Alif atoll to Laam atoll during the Ramadan. In Laam atoll, we’re completing the investigations that we couldn’t by the end of Ramadan,” he said. “We expect to cover Gaaf Alif and Gaaf Dhaal atolls this year after completing the investigations in Addu, Fuvahmulah, Laam atoll and Thaa atoll.” Muawwiz noted that the commission would also investigate cases filed after its investigations in the islands. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that the commission had received additional funding from the Finance Ministry in order to finish investigating all the corruption cases filed this year. “We’ll be able to cover almost all the areas of Maldives this year,” he said. “The cases filed from the islands are on the rise. Some of them are substantial issues.”
