The wife of the former President Mohamed Nasheed who has been jailed for illegally detaining Abdulla Gaazee in 2012، Laila Ali  has requested America to provide assistance to release the President Nasheed.
The request was made in Laila’s visit to America.
During the visit، Laila has met with the America’s Secretary of State John Kerry and requested to assist to release the former President Nasheed. She has aslo shared the concerns over Nasheed’s trial and claimed that Nasheed’s trial is a sham trial.
Apart from Kerry، Laila has met with the Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Senator Bob Corker and Senate Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and has requested assistance to release the President Nasheed.
Along with Laila، the meeting was accompanied by the lawyers of Nasheed’s international lawyers team، Amal Clooney and Jared Genser.
