The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held mass rallies in capital Male’ and other atolls، calling to release their leader، former president Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to prison for 13 years on terrorism charges.
During the rally today، MDP urged to release former president، to avoid any sanctions being imposed against Maldives، if the government do not obey the decision of UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.

The rally began at Artificial Beach at 16:30، going through major streets of Male’ city and ending at the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Sosun Magu junction، near ADK Hospital.
The rally was concluded with a special prayer.
People’s Majlis members of MDP، nasheed’s legal team members، party’s senior officials and supporters of Nasheed took part in the rally.
It was also held in Fuvahmulak، G Dh. Thinadhoo، Addu City، Raa atoll Maakurathu، R. Meedhoo، B. Thulhaadhoo، and other islands.
