The impromptu policy changes during MDP administration led to much higher prices of goods: Mohamed Ismail

MP for Hoarafushi, Mohammed Ismail have said that the impromptu policy changes during MDP administration led to much higher prices of goods and services in Maldives.
Speaking at the government oversight committee meeting this morning, Ismail said that the decision to float the dollars alone increased the prices by 40 percent. In addition, he noted that, withholding the salaries of civil servants also led to various hardships. The main discussion in today’s committee meeting was about the government decision to reduce subsidies on staple food items.
Both opposition and government members highlighted about the fact that a large share of the subsidies goes to the resorts and foreigners. However no one talked about a solution to this problem.
