Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has expressed confidence that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s initiatives will bring about development and growth to the Maldives’ Islamic sector. He made the statement at the signing ceremony to commence the practical work of key projects promised for the Islamic sector by the President.
On Saturday, the government signed contracts with state-owned firms, Fenaka Corporation Limited and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), marking the start of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledge to build new mosques in 35 islands across the Maldives. The mosques will be built in 11 islands in addition to the Islamic Center in Foakaidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. The contracts to build Quran Centers in Maabaidhoo, Laamu Atoll and Olhuvelifushi, Lhaviyani Atoll were also awarded on Saturday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Islamic Minister said the President is implementing his policies based on the peoples’ desires, following direct consultation with the people. The projects being launched are also similarly pursued projects, he stated. He expressed confidence that President Muizzu would undertake several projects in the Islamic sector, which will be closely monitored by the President himself.
The Minister further said the completion of the projects will see Quran classes established in mosques, and air conditioners installed in the mosques, as well as integration of solar panels. The mosque designs will be tailored to the Maldivian environment, and will create areas that ensure comfort for worshippers, he stated.
