BML and MINDCo partner to build national AI and data competency center

The Maldives Innovation and Digital Company (MINDCo) and the Bank of Maldives (BML) have signed an MoU to establish an AI and Data Competency Center, a key initiative under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s Maldives 2.0 digital transformation agenda.
According to BML, the centre reflects the President’s vision to strengthen public administration by integrating artificial intelligence and data-driven systems into government service delivery.
The center is designed as a national resource to help government institutions and major economic sectors adopt AI and data solutions safely and responsibly. Its core purpose is to support improved public services, enhance institutional capacity, and contribute to a more dynamic and resilient economy aligned with national development priorities.
MINDCo and BML said the center will collaborate closely with the private sector to co-create practical AI and data tools that address real challenges faced by government agencies. Through partnerships with local tech companies, startups and industry experts, the initiative aims to accelerate innovation and encourage the adoption of emerging technologies across the public sector.
MINDCo will lead the establishment of the center, while BML will serve as a strategic partner during its development and early implementation. The bank said its involvement underscores its commitment to advancing the country’s digital and financial ecosystem and supporting the modernisation of public services.
BML noted that the partnership is expected to complement ongoing improvements in the Maldives’ financial and payments landscape. Leveraging its experience in secure digital platforms, payment systems and AI-enabled services, the bank aims to help ensure the center delivers its services to the public efficiently and responsibly.
The AI and Data Competency Center will be rolled out in phases and is expected to begin operations in April.
