Police are investigating a case in which a police officer allegedly intimidated and endangered a child during an altercation at a futsal ground in the South Central region.  
According to a police message shared with the media, the incident occurred on Friday evening when the officer, who has a family connection to one of the children involved, allegedly threatened another child in a manner that could have caused physical harm.  
Police confirmed that the criminal aspect of the case is under investigation, while the administrative aspect is being reviewed by the Professional Standards Command, as the matter involves a serving officer.  
Authorities have withheld further details, citing the involvement of minors.  
The case comes at a time when concerns about child abuse in the Maldives are growing. Reports of child sexual abuse remain frequent, though many cases go unreported. A recent study also highlighted that the Maldives is the most accessible country in South Asia for child sexual abuse material, underscoring the urgency of stronger protections for children.
