Over 400 businesses have registered to participate in the workshop to be held in collaboration with Alibaba, the world's largest ecommerce platform, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said on Sunday.
The workshop, which will be held on Tuesday this week, opened for registrations on September 10. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed wrote in X on last Thursday that more than 155 Maldivian businessmen registered to participate in the workshop within 24 hours.

When asked how many entrepreneurs had registered for the workshop till Saturday, the Economic Ministry media officer said that a total of 448 entrepreneurs had participated in the workshop by the deadline.
The Economic Ministry said the main objective of the workshop, which will be attended by Alibaba experts, is to facilitate online businesses among the people of Maldives to open accounts to sell their goods online on Alibaba's platform.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised to facilitate the opening of seller accounts on the world's most widely used ecommerce platforms.
The workshop will be conducted online on the 16th of this month.
There are more than 400 online manufacturers in Maldives, according to an Economic Ministry inventory conducted by the Economic Ministry. These include skin care product manufacturers and suntan lotions based on research from an Australian lab.
In addition to Alibaba, ecommerce platforms such as Temu and Shein are also commonly used for online shopping by Maldivians.
