Maldives National Party (MNP) has submitted the necessary paperwork to the Elections Commission (EC) to register as a political party.
The documents were submitted to EC on Wednesday along with the signature of 5,000 registered members.
Speaking to reporters, one of the founders of the party, former Defence Minister and Dhangethi MP Mohamed Nazim said MNP will always put the country first. Nazim said the party's work began on July 26th - Maldives' Independence Day - and that today marks a historical day for MNP as hard work has paid off.
Noting that today is also the International Day of Democracy, Nazim said the party will be run according to democratic values and policies.
