Parliament approves Mohamed Hussain's appointment as Ambassador to Russia

Parliament Committee has approved Mohamed ‘Mundhu’ Hussain Shareef as non-resident Maldives Ambassador to Russia after it was sent for approval earlier this week.
While the second parliamentary sessions for this year began on Monday, the committee on national security approved Mohamed as non-resident Maldives Ambassador to Russia at a vote taken on Wednesday’s sitting with the majority of all 36 members present.
While European countries along with the United States and other significant nations have the same ambassador for Sri Lanka and Maldives, some countries have embassies in the Maldives while most have embassies in Sri Lanka. Mohamed currently also serves as the Maldives Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Mohamed previously held positions such as Maldives Ambassador to Japan in 2017 and various other high-profile positions during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, and is also a council member of the faction loyal to incumbent President Yameen Abdul Gayoom of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives.
