Speaking at the ambassador’s farewell visit to President Yameen, the president highlighted that the Chinese government made great contributions to the economic and social development of the Maldives during Fukang’s tenure as ambassador.
President Yameen expressed hopes to receive the same cooperation and support from Fukang’s successor.
Wang Fukang stated that he was proud of the stronger diplomatic relations that were established between the Maldives and China during his term. He assured that the future days will see China-Maldives relations growing stronger in the international community.
According to the President’s Office, President Yameen and Ambassador Fukang also discussed additional sectors in which the two nations can establish more bilateral relations during the visit.
The Maldives and China celebrated 45 years of diplomatic relations this year. The Chinese government is financing the bulk of the expenditures for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the largest development project undertaken in the island nation yet, via loans and free aid. China is also aiding in the development project of the main airport and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’s second phase of development.
