President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom sends sympathies to the President of People’s Republic of China، Xi Jinping as a powerful earthquake hits the Yunnan Province on the South West border of China، killing and injuring many people، on Monday. 
In the message of President، he said that it’s a deep sorrow to hear the news، and that he sends humble sympathies from the people and the Government of Maldives and from himself to the President، Government and the People of China. And also to convey condolences to the families who lost lives during the disaster.
The earthquake at a Richter magnitude of 6.1 killed over 389 people. Officials says that while 1،800 are injured، 12،000 homes were destroyed and 30،000 homes were damaged.
Media reports says that this is the most powerful earthquake to hit Yunnan Province in 14 years.
