Minister of Higher Education, Labor and Skills Development, Dr Maryam Mariya has declared that the government has decided on distributing student loans to all applicants who meet the required criteria.
Responding to a question posed by a civilian at the 'Ahaa' forum which allows citizens to ask questions from Ministers, Mariya declared that the window to apply for student loans has been extended to 13:30 hrs of May 2.
The application window was previously set to end on March 25.
While this ease was declared by the Minister, the number of slots extended during the window opened for students loans this year in February in order to facilitate studies both overseas and in the country with a focus on children with special needs was 500. This loan scheme offers flexible opportunities to study from a Diploma Degree to a PhD Degree.
During February last year, the former government had issued student loans to 1,986 students. Following complaints regarding this loan, the government had restructured the loan and lowered the administrative fee included in the previous percentage to 1 percent.
Similarly, the former administration had also issued student loans to all 1225 students who had met the requirements of the loan.
