A Bangladeshi man has been arrested from Velana International Airport with 86,000 USD, 2500 Euro and 2000 Maldivian Rufiyaa.
Police said that he was arrested based on a tip received to the police. It is not clear whether he came to Maldives as tourist or is working in Maldives.
Ever since the government ordered not to hold passport of foreign workers, many foreigners leave the country without informing their employers.
Recently many Bangladeshis have been arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into the country. It is unclear how this person obtained this much money. One assumption is that the money was stolen or the other assumption is that he was dealing drugs.
In addition, some Bangladeshis have been arrested for running prostitution rings. However, it does not seem that, they can get this much money from prostitution.
Also, it should be noted that there are no large businesses owned by Bangladeshis in Maldives.
