The new skate park in Usfasgandu area of Male’ will be further developed over multiple phases, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu has said.
Speaking to PSM News following the skate park’s opening, the minister said the ministry will closely monitor the facility to ensure it remains in good condition long-term. While Skate Maldives has been assigned to manage the park, its maintenance as well as any renovations and upgrades, will be handled by the Sports Ministry.
According to the minister, the government plans to introduce additional facilities and improvements based on the needs and aspirations of skaters. While the park already includes separate areas for skateboarding and inline skating, built to a good standard, additional upgrades and resources have been included in the plans, he said.
Construction of the skate park began with the laying of its foundation stone on 2 October last year. The project was carried out under the CSR initiative of Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC).
