President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has vowed to overlook political differences to press ahead with his Administration’s developmental agenda.
Addressing residents of Kudafari as part of a 13-island tour of Noonu Atoll, the President insisted the government's developmental agenda is designed to deliver equitable development for all islands across the Maldives, tailormade to the wishes and aspirations of the people.
President Dr Muizzu pledged to heed the concerns of residents to resolve the land erosion of Kudafari along with enhancing healthcare services available on the island.
"We have promised to provide sports infrastructure for youth and athletes in the islands. The fitness and recreation centre project in this island is not ready to be kickoff yet but we hope the council will soon allocate the land for the centre. We hope the council will work together with the government to realise the aspiration of the people,” he said.
Highlighting the development vision for Kudafari, the President said its developmental needs will be met without any discrimination, including the development of a new power plant in the island.
"We are not concerned about any island council not cooperating with the government or causing delays or hindrance. It is important for us to visit the people and listen to them. That is why we are making these visits to hear concerns directly from the people,” he explained.
President Dr Muizzu reiterated that his Administration will continue to steer clear of differences of political opinion and press ahead with its developmental agenda.
To coincide with President Dr Muizzu’s visit to the island, the government officially broke ground on the new waste management centre of Kudafari.
The government has awarded the project to Fenaka Corporation Limited.
The President during his tour, has inaugurated several projects in the islands he has visited thus far, ranging from healthcare, environment, transportation, sports and recreation.
During the visit to the island, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the N. Kudafari Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to discuss the island’s key developmental priorities.
During the meeting, Council members raised several concerns, including the need to strengthen coastal defences and improve educational facilities. They also emphasised the importance of expediting the completion of the new health centre building and highlighted additional requirements to enhance healthcare services on the island.
In response, President Dr Muizzu assured that the issues raised by the Council would be reviewed. He also provided updates on ongoing projects, with further details shared by cabinet ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises.
