Chief Justice Abdul Ghani Mohamed said on Saturday that the Maldivian judiciary is working toward achieving the highest standards in the administration of justice.
He made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the Judicial Conference 2026, which began on Saturday.
The Chief Justice said the judiciary’s guiding purpose is to uphold the rule of law.
“One of the most important things for an institution to thrive is to have a goal, a direction, a vision. That vision, that direction, that goal is in the Maldivian judiciary. That is to uphold the rule of law and achieve the highest standards of justice,” he said.
He also highlighted the increasing role of technology in the judicial sector, noting that technical skills have become essential for everyone.
“There are things we need to be careful about when using AI. Technological tools make things easier but do not avoid a form of bias. Therefore, human thinking and feeling will always play an important role over technology in establishing justice,” he said.
This year’s Judges’ Conference focuses on the use of technology and artificial intelligence in the judiciary. The keynote address is being delivered by Professor Dr. Hassan Ugail, and facilitators from the Indian Judicial Academy are also participating in the seminar.
