A three‑day food and culture festival will be held in Hulhumale' to welcome the New Year, featuring the country’s first‑ever “pyro‑drone” show, Visit Maldives Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the Youth Ministry, Shiuree said that unlike last year, when the festival was held for a single day, this year’s celebrations will run from Tuesday to Thursday, starting at 16:00 each day.
Shiuree said the festival aims to celebrate achievements across different fields and will include a variety of family‑friendly activities.
As with last year, a drone show will take place on Wednesday night at 21:00. However, Shiuree said this year’s display will be “more colourful and completely new,” marking the first time a pyro‑drone show, drones synchronised with fireworks‑style visual effects, will be staged in the Maldives.
A traditional fireworks display will follow at midnight on Wednesday. Shiuree encouraged the public to attend in large numbers.
The government has previously staged drone shows for major events, including the opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport and Eid celebrations.
