Emirates Airlines has announced that it will begin operating upgraded Boeing 777 aircraft to eight additional destinations including the Maldives starting from June 1, 2025. This development is part of the airline's ongoing retrofit program aimed at modernizing its fleet and enhancing passenger experience.
As per the airline, one retrofitted aircraft is being returned to service every three weeks. These upgraded Boeing 777s will offer enhanced comfort, featuring Emirates’ new Premium Economy cabin alongside a refreshed Economy Class setup. This move is expected to boost passenger capacity while maintaining the airline’s high standards of luxury and service.
The Maldives, one of Emirates’ key destinations, will see the first flight of the upgraded aircraft on route EK 658/659 in June. Additional flights, EK 656/657 and EK 660/661, are scheduled to begin on July 15. This increased capacity comes at a time when the Maldives continues to experience strong tourist arrivals.
Currently, 44 international airlines operate flights to the Maldives, and Emirates remains one of the top contributors to tourist traffic. According to tourism statistics, Emirates consistently brings in the largest number of tourists to the island nation.
The airline’s decision to include the Maldives in its fleet enhancement program highlights the country’s importance as a premier luxury travel destination and a key market for Emirates.
