President Muizzu Establishes Special Commission to Investigate Yumnu Rasheed Case

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has established a Special Presidential Commission tonight to independently investigate the incident in which 21-year-old Yumnu Rasheed fell from the roof of a warehouse at H. Mitaz on April 18, 2025. The Commission was formed under the authority granted to the President by Article 115(g) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.
According to the Presidential Decree, the Commission’s mandate is to conduct a credible, impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case, examine the actions of relevant institutions to date, and take necessary measures to ensure a fair and just inquiry.
The President appointed former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munawwar, retired Brigadier General Ahmed Mohamed, and former IGMH CEO Dr. Mohamed Habeeb as members of the Commission, with Dr. Munawwar serving as Chairman.
The Commission has been granted extensive powers, including the ability to seek assistance from all state institutions and external parties, engage foreign experts, and exercise law enforcement authority as outlined in the Criminal Procedure Act. It is authorized to request arrest warrants and other court orders, summon and question individuals, obtain documents and evidence, and require relevant parties to submit information.
The Commission is also empowered to acquire findings and evidence from any prior investigations conducted by other parties related to the case. As stipulated in the Presidential Decree, the Commission will remain active until the President determines its assigned tasks are fully completed.
