The number of tourists visiting the Maldives crossed 200,000 in January, statistics have shown.
According to the Tourism Ministry, the number of tourists visiting the country in January was 11.1 percent higher than the same period last year.
The largest number of tourists visited the Maldives in January came from China. According to the latest statistics from the Tourism Ministry, 31,388 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives as of January 29, accounting for 15.7 percent of the total arrivals.

Resorts remained the most popular accommodation choice for tourist, with 69.7 percent (134,714 tourists) opting for resorts. While guesthouses accommodated 25.5 percent (50,864 tourists), 4,907 tourists stayed in tourist hotels and 4,613 tourists in safari vessels.
Currently, there are currently 177 resorts, 793 guesthouses, 154 safari vessels and 15 hotels operating in the country.
